Do you travel frequently on trans-continental flights? Do you suffer from jet lag often? Let me tell you that unfortunately traveling frequently is one of the most unhealthy things you can do.
Let me start by saying I also travel pretty frequently, although I am being much more strategic about trips going forward. Pilots and flight attendants are known to have higher cancer rates + increased risk of neurodegeneration. “Frequent fliers” can also be thrown into this boat as well. So why is travel so bad for our health?
Circadian Rhythm Disruption
Artificial Light
High Non-Native Electromagnetic Field (nnEMF) exposure
Consumption of Low Quality / Highly Processed Foods
It is no coincidence that you feel like crap when you drastically switch time zones, and it is because of the IMMENSE amount of oxidative stress that the above stressors put on your body.
What is oxidative stress? Oxidative stress is the loss of redox homeostasis. When your body produces energy (ATP) in the Electron Transport Chain (ETC), it does not do so perfectly. 95% of the Oxygen you breathe is solely used to be the final electron acceptor at Complex IV in the ETC, where it is part of a reaction that creates metabolic water (H2O). However, this chemical reaction and chain of cellular respiration is not perfect. When an Oxygen atom acquires just one electron, and is not part of the full chemical conversion into H2O, it turns into O2- or superoxide anion. This is a reactive oxygen species or “free radical”. This free radical now has an unpaired electron in its valence, making it unstable and wanting to do anything to reach stability. That means it will look to steal an electron from anywhere, and often times that could be from areas of the cell that are critically important, such as the cell membrane, which would inherently cause damage. “Anti-oxidants” are compounds that can reduce this cellular damage by providing an electron to stabilize the reactive oxygen species. We produce anti-oxidants endogenously (melatonin, H2O2, glutathione, etc.) but also consume them in our food. This is a back and forth battle, know as redox (reduction/oxidation—>gain/loss of electrons) homeostasis. When too many free radicals are produced for the anti-oxidants to keep up with, cellular damage occurs and that is OXIDATIVE STRESS.
When you understand the mechanism of something, you can COMBAT it. Oxidative stress is the loss of redox homeostasis. When you are in a high stress environment, such as traveling, you are going to have to pull out ALL the stops to tip the scale back in your favor. THAT IS HOW YOU AVOID JET LAG.
Fortunately for you, I have been experimenting with perfecting a protocol to avoid jet lag for the past few years, and can confirm it is 100% possible to avoid/severely reduce the amount of oxidative stress your body takes on during travel + completely avoid multi-day jet lag for transcontinental flights.
I am excited to announce the very first health optimization program/guide I have released: AVOIDING JET LAG-An In Depth Guide to Hacking the Stressors of Travel.
This guide is extremely comprehensive, and application specific. It is a 30 page PDF that goes in WHY the above mentioned stressors of travel are bad for your health and cause oxidative stress, and then HOW you can avoid that terrible jet lag feeling. Below is an overview of the contents and a few teaser pages.
I am selling a LIMITED quantity at the current price, and since you are subscribers to my newsletter I am letting you know before I post it anywhere on Twitter or Instagram.
Do you travel often for business or pleasure? If so, it is almost impossible to avoid jet lag when switching time zones 3+ hours or traveling for 6+ hours. If you value your health, and performance on these trips…I can assure you that the knowledge to avoid jet lag for a lifetime is ultimately priceless.
Check out the FULL guide for purchase HERE.
I am excited to get more programs/guide/courses out to you all, and will always share that first here on my newsletter!
